Real Life are a Melbourne-based Australian new wave, synthpop band that had hits with their debut single, “Send Me an Angel” (1983) and with “Catch Me I’m Falling” (1983), both of which were featured on the band’s debut album Heartland (1983).
“Send Me An Angel” is the band’s most well-known song. The song is about a man who asks himself whether he will find true love. This version originally peaked in early 1984 in the US at No. 29 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The song’s biggest chart success, however, was in 1989, where an updated version entitled “Send Me an Angel ’89” surpassed the original version from 1983. “Send Me An Angel ’89” reached a peak of No. 26 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in the summer of 1989 in the US. Both versions are very similar; the 1989 version is missing the louder “claps” in the chorus and the drums sound much less electronic, more like an acoustic kit, as opposed to the typical 1980s electronic drums sound heard on the original. The song is prominently featured in the 1989 film The Wizard, the 1986 film Rad, and the 1987 film Teen Wolf Too.
The video clip was filmed in burnt forests in Victoria soon after the Ash Wednesday bushfires on 16 February 1983.

I did this video a few years ago and I’ve decided to do it again because I have new, better filters. The vob source I have for this video is reasonable quality but it is plagued by a lot of fizzy garbage and compression noise. It took me 3 attempts to work out how to remove most of this crap using various filter chains. A little sharpening and detail enhancement has been done in the scale to HD resolution. You can’t get better than this from this old blurry hit video from Australia.
Audio was rubbish and I’ve replaced it with a tweaked CD track that has been time compressed to fit the slightly faster video audio track. Sounds bonza now mate, so go ahead and turn up the volume!
I hope you all enjoy this video upscale. Please share the link with your friends and I hope it doesn’t end up being blocked in your country.
